Seymour Tribune September 27, 2009 Thomas J. Gerth Sr. Thomas J. Gerth Sr., 71, of Seymour passed away at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at home. Mr. Gerth was born in Seymour, on Aug. 29, 1938, the son of the late Oscar F. and Berniece A. (Brooks) Gerth. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Eagles Club and American Legion Post 1925. He was the owner-operator of the family restaurant here in Seymour, known as Gerth's Cafe. Tom was a friend to all and an avid outdoorsman who just loved to hunt, fish and trap. One of his favorite hobbies was to make arrows. He graduated from Shields High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran. Tom is survived by a daughter, Pamela (Greg) Baurle; a son, Vince (Stacy) Gerth; grandchildren, Addison, Delanie and Landon Gerth, Brandon, Scott and Anna Baurle and Thomas J. Gerth III; three great-grandchildren, Ely, Eian and Ashlyn Henderson; a brother, Oscar M. (Diane) Gerth; sister-in law, Nancy Gerth; a very good friend, Carol Allman; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard Gerth; and a son Thomas J. Gerth II. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church with Father Scott Nobbe officiating and Deacon Mike East assisting. Friends may call at Voss Chapel from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and at the church after 9 a.m. Wednesday until time of Mass. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may give memorials to the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge. Full military graveside service will be conducted by the American Legion Post 1925, VFW Post 89, DAV, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour.
