Seymour Daily Tribune Virgil C. Grapevine October 18, 2006 Jan. 10, 1926 - Oct. 16, 2006 Virgil C. Grapevine, 80, North Vernon, died at 1:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, at his residence. Mr. Grapevine retired from Findley Pallet Co. in Seymour. Prior to that, he worked at the Swing Factory for 17½ years in Vernon and also at Arvin Industries in Seymour. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in both World War II and the Korean War, and was a member of North Vernon Veterans of Foreign Wars Matt Hester Post 2021 and a member of Grayford Road Church of God, where he had served as a youth leader. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Born Jan. 10, 1926, in Johnson County, he was a son of Leonidas Carlton and Carrie Agnes Robbins Grapevine, both of whom preceded him in death. On Sept. 19, 1967, in North Vernon, he married Janice Rosemary Lockhard, who died Aug. 10, 1998. He is survived by two sons, Richard Michael Grapevine, Commiskey, and Mark C. Grapevine, French Lick; three daughters, Carrie May Boyd, Freetown, and Jessie Fay Acton and Melissa Darnell, both of North Vernon; a brother, Ernest Grapevine, Greensburg; a sister, Charlotte Crippen, Burney; 10 grandchildren, Andrew Boyd and George Boyd, both of Freetown, Amanda Abner, Commiskey, Adrienne Darnell and Mary Ann Darnell, both of North Vernon, Melissa Wilson, Seymour, Joseph Zagata, Cortland, Andrew Zagata, Pennsylvania, and Crystal Grapevine and Mark Grapevine, both of Kentucky; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Alfred, Ray and Carl Grapevine; a sister, Dortha Sanders; and a great-granddaughter, Savannah Boyd. The Rev. Rosa New will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Thursday at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home, North Vernon, with burial to take place at Baldwin Cemetery near Vernon. Full military graveside honors will be performed by North Vernon Veterans of Foreign Wars Matt Hester Post 2021. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Jennings County through the funeral home.
