Seymour Tribune - November 5, 2009 Yvonne Beldon Griffith "Sue" 1930 - 2009 Yvonne "Sue" Beldon Griffith passed away Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, in the comfort of her daughter's home in Richland, Wash. Born May 1, 1930, in Cincinnati, she was the daughter of Earl and Cora Beldon, the fifth of seven daughters, Anna Maye (deceased), Earline, Jayne, June, Avah (deceased) and Loretta. As a small girl, Sue's family moved back to her parents' hometown of Tampico, where she grew up, graduated from Tampico High School and headed off to college. She received her teaching degree from Indiana State Teachers College in 1950 and her master's degree in education from Indiana State University in 1966. During high school, she met and fell in love with Charles "Walter" Griffith, and they married Sept. 3, 1950. Walter's military career moved them to Gary, and eventually they settled outside of Edinburgh. Sue and Walter raised four children, Chip, Cathie, Cora Pat and Carol Hope. Sue and Walter celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 3, 2000. Sue was preceded in death by her daughter, Cora Pat Griffith, who passed away in 2002, and her loving husband, Walter, who passed away in 2003. She then moved to Washington state to live with her daughter, Cathie, and son-in-law, Mark. She was a first-grade teacher for a total of 42 years, the last 35 years at Eastside Elementary School in Edinburgh, where she retired in 1995. She was very involved in all aspects of family life, church, school and community. She served on endless committees, was a member of Old Union Church of Christ, past president of the Edinburgh Teacher's Association, past matron of Nineveh Eastern Star 466, first lady and wife of the 1998 Murat Shrine Potentate and an active member of Beta Sigma Phi. Survivors include sisters, Earline Cunningham, Jayne Nierman, June Jones and Loretta Hoevener; children, Chip (Janet), Texas; Cathie (Mark), Washington, and Carol Hope, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Amber, Jessica, Everett Allen, Ashley, Joshua and Amanda; and two great-granddaughters. Two memorial services are being planned for the third weekend of June 2010 in Indiana, with the first at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2010, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brownstown. Please join the Beldon family in the fellowship hall following the memorial service at the church in Brownstown. The second service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 20, 2010, at Old Union Church of Christ outside of Edinburgh. She will be buried at the Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh next to her husband, Walter, and daughter, Cora. Einan's Funeral Home in Richland, Wash., was in charge of arrangements.
