Seymour Daily Tribune Alger E. Hageman October 12, 2006 Oct. 25, 1926 - Oct. 10, 2006 Alger E. Hageman, 79, Columbus, died at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Mr. Hageman graduated from Shields High School in Seymour in 1944, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Philippines from 1944 to 1946 and graduated from Utah State University in 1950 Sigma Phi Epsilon with a degree in dairy chemistry. He entered the U.S. Army as a second lieutenant in 1950, fought in the Korean War from 1951 to 1952¸ spent two tours in Vietnam from 1961 to 1967 and retired from the Army in 1969 with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He moved to Columbus in 1969, where he worked at Irwin Management and Atterbury Job Corps and helped the elderly by delivering food with Meals on Wheels for 16 years. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he did volunteer work. He enjoyed fishing, golf and spending time with his family. Born Oct. 25, 1926, in Seymour, he was a son of Edwin and Emma Brand Hageman, both of whom preceded him in death. On Sept. 5, 1948, he married Helen J. Wilson, who survives. Other survivors include a son, Mike (Melody) Hageman, Seymour; a daughter, Karen (Bob) Kline, Scottsdale, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Kysni and Brennan Kline, Scottsdale, and Catherine and Jack Hageman, Columbus; and two stepgrandchildren, Kip and Kevin Ude, Seymour. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn and Velma Brock, and a brother, Donald Hageman. The Rev. John Armstrong will conduct funeral services at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until time of service Saturday at the church. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association. Arrangements are being handled by Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, Columbus.
