Seymour Daily Tribune March 6, 2002 Dr. Samuel R. Harmon Dr. Samuel R. Harmon, 82, of Evansville and formerly of Scottsburg, died Monday, March 4, 2002, at Evansville. Dr. Harmon had been an optometrist for 38 years in downtown Evansville and was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Artillery in the European Theater of Operations. He was a graduate of Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn., and was a member of Beta Sigma Kappa International Honorary Fraternity and a life member of the American Optometric Association. He also was a member of Twilight Optimist Club, was one of the founders of the Evansville Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, was involved in the Parent, Teacher and Counselor organization at the Indiana School for the Deaf in Indianapolis and was an avid fisherman. He was born Sept. 3, 1919, in Scottsburg. His wife, Dorothy Andis Harmon, survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Arlene White, Carmel, and Teresa J. Schmidt, Beech Grove; a son, Dr. Samuel A. Harmon, Noblesville; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Phil LaMaster will conduct services at 2 p.m. Thursday at Stewart Funeral Home, Scottsburg. Burial will be in Scottsburg Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Pierre Funeral Home, Evansville, and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Stewart Funeral Home, Scottsburg. Memorials may be given to the Indiana School for the Deaf or the YWCA, Evansville, in care of Stewart Funeral Home.
