Seymour Tribune - August 25, 2009 Richard Dean Hauer Richard Dean Hauer, 74, Vallonia, passed away at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009, after an illness of 11 years. Mr. Hauer served in the U.S. Army, 62nd Transportation Co., Fort Sheridan, Ill. He was of Christian faith. He retired after 32 years with Keiffer Paper Mill. In addition, he farmed all his life until his illness. The family ran Hauer's Produce for 38 years on Lake Road. Farming was not a job to him for he loved being in the fields, tending to the crops. He was a member of American Legion Post 89. He was a lifelong resident of the area. His passions were farming, coon hunting, rabbit hunting, playing cards, watching college basketball, mushroom hunting and Jack Russell Terrier dogs, especially one named "Sugar." Born Dec. 18, 1934, in Jackson County, he was the son of Tilford and Lillian Graham Hauer, both of whom preceded him in death. On May 12, 1961, in Jackson County, he married Goldie Ann Singer, who survives. Other survivors include children, Carmen (Darrell) Evans, South Carolina, DeeDee (David) Kovener, Milwaukee, Wis., Rex (Karen) Hauer, Vallonia, Lori (David) Shackelford, Knoxville, Tenn.; brothers, Kenneth (Beth) Hauer, Morgantown, Steve (Peggy) Hauer, Scottsburg, Mick (Lavena) Hauer, Vallonia; sister, Pat (Dale) Shepard, Brownstown; sister-in-law, Joy Hauer; grandchildren, Chasity (David) Babbitt, DeAnn (John) Eubanks, Lindsey Kovener, Reid Kovener, Clay Hauer, Clark Hauer, Derik (Anna) Nierman and Adilee Spurgeon. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Carl, Melvin, Keith, Tilford Jr. and Rick. Johnny Johnson and Marsha Rodenberger will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home, Vallonia. Burial will take place at Vallonia Cemetery with full military graveside services. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home.
