Seymour Tribune - December 2008 Naomi N. (Nau) Heiwig 1916 - 2008 Naomi N. Heiwig, longtime resident of Seymour, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at Covered Bridge Health Campus, Seymour. Mrs. Heiwig had a long professional career as co-owner of Heiwig's Appliances, as well as director of Jackson County American Red Cross. She was also director of volunteer services for Jackson County Hospital. Naomi had been a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club since 1950, and served as its Indiana state president. She also served as a charter member and member of the board of directors of the Jackson County Hospital Guild, volunteering for 18 years and serving three years as local guild president, area vice chairman and vice chairman of the Indiana Hospital Auxiliaries Association. She was a member of the state board of directors of IHAA, state president of IHAA, chairman of the Auxiliary Tri-State Assembly of American Hospital Association. She also served as a board member on the Area XI Agency on Aging. She was also active in Delta Theta Tau sorority, the American Legion Auxiliary, All Thumbs Garden Club, Seymour Tuesday Club, Indiana Society of Directors of Volunteers, and was parliamentarian for the Indiana Organization of Nurse Executives. She served on the Jackson County Community Service Council, Salvation Army Service, Valparaiso University Guild and was a Kentucky Colonel since 1979. She also was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was chosen Woman of the Year in 1990 by the career BPW club in Seymour. She was also named Older Woman of the Year by Area XI Agency on Aging in 1992. Born May 1, 1916, in Stillwater, Okla., she was the daughter of the Rev. Peter G. and Martha Yeiling Nau. In 1942, she married former Seymour Mayor Donald L. Heiwig, who preceded her in death in 1989. Survivors include her son, Douglas (Kathy) Heiwig, Indianapolis; grandchildren, Tiffany (Tom) O'Connell, Daniel L. (Lori) Heiwig, Brian (Sally) Heiwig; stepgrandchildren, Mark Stewart and Jody Lambert; a sister, Ruth Drnjevic; and a brother, Louis Nau. She was preceded in death by a daughter in-law, Elizabeth J. "Betsy" Heiwig, in 1986. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Winklepleck-Weesner Funeral Home, Brownstown. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
