Seymour Tribune - April 26, 2007 Earl Taft Hobbs Jr. Earl Taft Hobbs Jr., 77, Brownstown, passed away at 5:27 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour. Mr. Hobbs was a member of Brownstown First Baptist Church and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was founder and president of Line Contracting Co. Inc. for 51 years. In 1970, he founded Brownstown Electric with longtime partner Carl Shake. He owned and operated L.C. Farms. In 2003, he was named an honorary member of the American Salers Association. He was a longtime member of the American Hereford Association and the American Saler Association. He was the first president of the Indiana Saler Association. He belonged to the Indiana Cattleman Association, receiving the lifetime service award in 2003. He was a longtime supporter of FFA, where he was an honorary member. In 1999, he was recognized by the Jackson County Fair and the Jackson County Beef Cattleman’s Association for his dedication and contributions to the Jackson County Fair. He was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts and the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a longtime supporter and sponsor of youth leagues in the area. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. He was known for his positive outlook on life and for sharing his gifts of love, compassion and hospitality. Born Jan. 30, 1930, in Hagan, Va., he was a son of Earl T. and Rebecca Middleton Hobbs. On May 22, 1993, in Brownstown, he married Patricia Ann Pendleton, who survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Linda (Rick) la Cour, Madison, and Krysti (Marc) Story, Seymour; two sons, Brian (Wendy) Pendleton, Kent, and Brad (Andrea) Pendleton, Brownstown; a brother, Chester Hobbs, Elizabethtown, Ky.; two sisters, Bessie Sue (Eddie) Richie, Florence, Ky., and Betty Jean (Darrell) Marcum, Brandenburg, Ky.; eight grandchildren, Lucy la Cour, Gunner la Cour, Jennifer Short, Sam Short, Drew Storey, Jordyn Pendleton, Lexi Streigel and Andrew Streigel; two great-grandchildren, Hailey Short and Cooper Goss; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Leonard, Herman, Noble Clyde, J.M. and Leo Hobbs; three sisters, Wilma Ruth Bledsoe, Helen Brock and Barbara Ann Welch; and a cousin that was as close as a brother, Ed Hobbs. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Winklepleck-Weesner Funeral Home, Brownstown. Jean Pogue will conduct a brief service at 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hardy Creek Baptist Church, Rose Hill, Va. Burial will take place at Milan-Hobbs Cemetery, Hagan, Va.
