Seymour Daily Tribune Emmett E. Hobbs Jan. 7, 1939 – June 7, 2006 Emmett E. Hobbs, 67, Vallonia, died at 9:57 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at Columbus Regional Hospital, Columbus. Mr. Hobbs served during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. #1686 in Oolitic, a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #655 in Seymour, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #2324 in Scottsburg, and the American Legion Post #234 in Scottsburg. He lived most of his life in Jackson and Washington Counties. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Operating Engineers Local #103 in Indianapolis for 28 years. Born Jan. 7, 1939, in Scottsburg, he was the son of Lawrence Albert Hobbs and Esther (Whiteside) Hobbs, both of whom preceded him in death. Survivors include one daughter, Shelly B. Helmon, Louisville, Ky.; three brothers, Doyle Hobbs, Ralph Hobbs, both of Scottsburg and Russell Hobbs, Columbus; four sisters, Marjorie Gettelfinger, Ft. Mitchell, Ky., Lucille Piper, Covington, Ky., Janet Robison, Scottsburg, and Lois I. Cheatham, Salem; former wife and close friend, Kay Hobbs, Indianapolis; two step-sons, William I. Kappus and Chuck Kappus, both of Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Drew, Ian and Griffin Helmon; and three step-grandchildren, Chris, Matt and Jackie Kappus. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Max Hobbs and one sister, Maxine Hobbs. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Collins Funeral Home, Scottsburg. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, Scottsburg. Full military honors will be conducted at the graveside. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
