Seymour Daily Tribune Bertha Elizabeth Hornsby Aug. 5, 1925 – July 14, 2006 Bertha Elizabeth Hornsby, 80, died Friday, July 14, 2006, at her son’s residence in North Vernon. Mrs. Hornsby was a former greeter at Wal-Mart in Seymour, and also was a retired laborer for the old Excello Shirt Factory in Seymour, where she worked for 23 years. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Scottsburg. She was formerly of Scottsburg and had lived in Seymour with her daughter for many years. Born Aug. 5, 1925, in Effingham County, Ill., she was a daughter of Lambert and Bertha Elizabeth (Combs) Robbins, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Russell Lee Hornsby, Sr. He preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 1990. Survivors include a son, Russell Lee Hornsby, Jr., North Vernon; two daughters, B.J. Wilson, Seymour, and Penny K. Wilson, Florida; a stepson, Lonnie Noble, Austin; a brother, John A. Robbins, Franklin, N.C.; 21 grandchildren, Rocky (Amanda) Wilson, Robert (Stephanie) Wilson, and Melanie (Walkar) Ritz, all of Seymour, Lamar (Liz) Hornsby, Russ Hornsby and Pamela Atkins, all of North Vernon, William (Geri) Conner, Jerry (Diane) Conner, Brady Samson, Scott (Rita) Samson and Tracey Richardson; 48 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Harold Glenn Miskell; a daughter, Lacey June Samson; two sisters, Alice L. Robbins and Margaret St. Clair and a grandson, Donald K. Samson. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Collins Funeral Home, Scottsburg. Burial will take place at Scottsburg Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Seventh Day Adventist Church, Scottsburg.
