Seymour Daily Tribune Charles M. Huffman Oct. 22, 1933 – July 2, 2006 Charles M. Huffman, 72, Seymour, died Sunday, July 2, 2006, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. Mr. Huffman attended Brownstown, Sparksville, Seymour and Medora schools. He was a graduate of Carlsbad College in California and received his associate degree from Indiana University. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served with Fox Co. 2nd Bn 1st Marines. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Active Reserve for 10 years in the Far East and locally as military and civil intelligence officer. He was employed by the GAO for Kentucky F.B.I. Office for four years, Cummins Engine as experimental test driver for four years, and long-distance driver for Lear-Siegler for 13 years. He was also a self-employed coast-to-coast long-distance truck driver for six years and one year with Denver Mint. He was a former member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Sparksville, and Redeemer Lutheran Church in Seymour. He was a member of the Washington F&AM Lodge #13, Valley of Indianapolis Scottish Rite and Jackson County AAS, Murat Shriners Indianapolis, Clan #24 East Tennessee Hillbilly Shriners, President of the Rolling Hills Shrine Club, secretary and parade co-ordinator for Smokey Patrol, North Vernon, charter member of Loyal Order Moose Lodge #418, Fraternal Order of Eagles #655 for 35 years, life member of American Legion Post #89, Life DAV member, Veterans of Foreign Post 1925 Seymour for 31 years, Past Post Commander post 1925-2000-01, past 9th District Commander 1990-1991, VFW State Inspector and numerous other state offices, National Assistant Inspector General for two years, a total of 18 years in office with VFW. He was a founder of the Jackson County Veterans Memorial at Gaiser Park in Seymour in 2001 and was chairman of board until February 2003. He was a major contributor for the Shields Park Bandstand. Born Oct. 22, 1933, in Carr Township, he was a son of Charles E. and Flora E. Branaman Huffman, both of whom preceded him in death. Survivors include his finance, Norma Kriete; one daughter, Cheryl (Tim) Hallow; two grandsons, Andrew Roark and Jared Roark. Pastor Blomenberg and Pastor Bloch will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial will take place at Proctor Cemetery. Full military graveside rites will be conducted by the VFW Post #1925, American Legion Post #89, Disabled American Veterans #47, and Vietnam Veterans #7, all of Seymour. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Voss Chapel and from noon until time of service Thursday at the church. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
