Seymour Tribune - August 30, 2009 Homer A. Hurley Homer A. Hurley, 72, of County Road 330W, died at 6:35 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility, Columbus. Mr. Hurley retired from Cummins Engine Co. in 1997 from the heating and refrigerating department, where he had served for 30 years. He enjoyed writing poems and gardening. Homer was born in Jackson County, Feb. 12, 1937, the son of Ulysses Grant and Fannie Mae Nichols Hurley. He married Betty L. Ferguson on Dec. 30, 1987. Survivors include his children, Jarlyn (Daniel) Graske, Salem, Darren Hurley, Columbus, Ryan Hurley, Columbus, and Lisa Hurley, Nashville; stepchildren, Linda Burton, Julie Shafer, Steven (Cora) Merriman and Roger (Sally) Merriman, all of Columbus; sister, Della (Rick) Campbell, Brownstown; and several grandchildren, stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Coy, Bob, Paul and Grant Hurley Jr.; and sisters, Juanita Day and Retha Wheeler. Calling will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, Washington Street, Columbus. In keeping with Mr. Hurley's wishes there will be no funeral and cremation will take place. A private family interment will be held at a later date at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.
