Seymour Tribune - May 16, 2009 Dennis H. Jerrell 1944 - 2009 Dennis H. Jerrell, 64, of Collierville, Tenn., and formerly of Madison, passed away at 1:40 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2009, at his home. Born Aug. 4, 1944, in Seymour, he was the son of Leonard O. and Janie M. Barnes Jerrell. He is survived by his wife, Freida K. Walters Jerrell of Collierville, Tenn.; two daughters, Wendy Bentley and her husband Don of Madison and Kristie Strickland of Collierville, Tenn.; one son, Byron Jerrell and his wife Courtney of Detroit, Mich.; one sister, Polly Wehner and her husband Kenny of Madison; his grandchildren, Stephanie, Brandon, Alex, Mallory, Madelyn and Darby; five stepgrandchildren; his niece and nephews, Shawn, Bradley, Kara and Kyle; his uncle, Milford Jerrell of Seymour; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his mother, Janie M. Barnes Jerrell, who died Aug. 12, 2000; his father, Leonard O. Jerrell, who died May 29, 2007; and his sister, Donna Jane Heady, who died May 22, 2008. Dennis entered this life on Aug. 4, 1944, in Seymour, the son of Leonard O. and Janie M. Barnes Jerrell, both of whom preceded him in death. He resided his early years in Seymour, moving to Madison in 1960. He graduated in 1963 from Madison High School. He was united in marriage on May 22, 1965, in Seymour to Frieda K. Walters and to this union arrived two daughters and a son to bless their home. He was inducted into the United States Navy, rising to the rank of storekeeper second class. He served in Vietnam for 13 months and was honorably discharged after three years and nine months of service. He was employed for several years for Conn Organ in Madison and then at Kawneer Co. in Carrollton for several years. He began a new career on June 23, 1981, with the federal government, working at the Jefferson Proving Ground in Madison. He moved to Collierville in 1992, and had worked for various federal governmental agencies and finished his career as a human resources specialist for the Army Corps of Engineers in the Department of Defense in Memphis, Tenn., retiring Feb. 28, 2008. He was a member of North Madison Christian Church in Madison. He enjoyed keeping his home and grounds beautiful. He was learning to frame pictures and had a great eye for hanging them. His family was his pride and joy and enjoyed all the special times together. He fought a courageous battle with multiple myeloma. Pastor Frank McGee will conduct funeral services at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison.
