Seymour Tribune - October 14, 2009 Joseph Paul Kerkhof 1947 - 2009 Joseph Paul Kerkhof, 62, Seymour, passed away at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009. Mr. Kerkhof graduated in 1965 from Cortland High School. He retired from Cummins after 42 years and was an active farmer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of St. John Lutheran Church at White Creek. He was active in the church, serving in many offices. Joe was a member of American Legion Post 89 and Indiana Farm Bureau. He enjoyed collecting John Deere memorabilia and riding his Honda Gold Wing. But most of all, he enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren. Born Sept. 9, 1947, in Columbus, he was the son of Paul L. Kerkhof and the late Geneva Horman Kerkhof. On Sept. 1, 1973, he married Kathleen "Kathy" Christopher in Seymour. Besides his wife and father, he is survived by two sons, Kyle (Angela) Kerkhof and Eric (Amanda) Kerkhof; a daughter, Emily Kerkhof; three grandchildren, Hannah and Drew Kerkhof and Oliver Kerkhof; two sisters, Joyce (Dennis) Meyer and Rebecca "Becky" (Doyce) Eckelman; stepmother, Joanne Kerkhof; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kendra Jo Kerkhof. Pastor Joshua Cook will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, White Creek. Burial will follow at St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47 and Korean and Vietnam Veterans 7, all of Seymour. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Voss Chapel, Seymour, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Friday at the church.
