Seymour Tribune - March 2009 Ronald W. Kiel 1940 - 2009 Ronald W. Kiel, 69, of Columbus and Frostproof, Fla., passed away unexpectedly at 3:07 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2009, in Sebring, Fla., due to pneumonia and lung disease. He had been ill for one week. His winter residence was at Lily Lake Golf Resort in Frostproof, which is where Ron always said, "It was Heaven's waiting room." His summer home was on Luse Drive in Columbus. Ron attended Jonesville Lutheran School and was a 1958 graduate of Columbus High School. He retired from Cummins Engine Co. after 30 years of service and later retired after 10 years of service from Contel/GTE, where he enjoyed the communication field. He was a Boy Scout leader at Jonesville and North Christian Church in Columbus and was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Columbus. He also was a member of the Seymour American Legion. Ron enjoyed golfing, fishing and having fun and laughs with his many friends and family. Born in Jackson County on Feb. 13, 1940, Mr. Kiel was the son of Walter and Alvina Voss Kiel. On Aug. 9, 1959, he married Betty Jones, who preceded him in death on Dec. 19, 1999, and he married Donna Morphew on Nov. 10, 2001. Survivors include his wife, Donna; children, Jo Ann Kiel, Columbus, and Scott (Beth) Kiel, Fishers; stepchildren, Sarah (Kenny) Heifner, San Diego, Brenda (Mark) May, Alexandria, Randy Morphew, Edinburgh, and Rodney Morphew, Alexandria; brothers, Kenneth (Carol) Kiel, Columbus, and Lowell (Marita) Kiel, Seymour; grandchildren, Sarah Kiel, Bloomington, and Tyler Kiel, Fishers; stepgrandchildren, Amber (Brandon) Aiman, Aaron (Mary Ann Abernathy) Heifner, Andrew Heifner, Adam (Jessie) May, Jeremy (Amanda Ritchie) May, Amy May and Lacey, Chance and Zachary Morphew, all of Alexandria, Autumn (Kent) Pant and Bronson and Braden Morphew, all of Kendallville, Suzy Lindell, Noblesville, and Scott (Marie) Starr, Fayetteville, Ark.; and 14 stepgreat-grandchildren. Ron was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife of 40 years, Betty Jones Kiel. The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Columbus with the Rev. Patrick Galligar officiating. Family and friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street in Columbus and from 9 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the church. Burial will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Jonesville.
