Seymour Tribune - September 30, 2009 Melvin Kirts 1913 - 2009 Melvin Kirts, 96, Kurtz, passed away at 5:05 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour. Mr. Kirts had retired in 1975 from Cummins Engine Co. after 31 years and five months of service. He enjoyed being a horseman and riding his horses but more importantly he loved his family and his church. Born March 3, 1913, in Brown County, he was the son of Lewis and Lydia Wolfington Kirts. In 1938, he married Bertha L. Mitchener. He later married Esther Osborne Mullins, who preceded him in death. Survivors include children, Phyllis (Marcus) Barnard and Wally (Kaye) Mullins, both of Kurtz, Amy (Robert) Price, Louisville, Ky., Josephine Ruth, Seymour, and Gail (Winfred) Wilson, Brownstown; brothers, Russell (Retna) Kirts, Columbus, and Henry Kirts, Florida; sisters, Christine, Columbus, Wilma, Colorado, and Grace, Greensburg; 19 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughters, Barbara Kay Kirts and Clara Roll; sons, Marvin Kirts and Gary Kirts; sisters, Thelma Thompson and Ruth Lucas; and brothers, Earl Kirts, Mosier Kirts and Verl Kirts. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kurtz Church of the Nazarene. Burial will take place at Kurtz Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Winklepleck-Weesner Funeral Home, Brownstown, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.
