Seymour Daily Tribune November 22, 2006 Mosier Kirts April 28, 1919 - Nov. 22, 2006 Mosier Kirts, 87, Houston, died at 8:21 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Christy and Rondal Jackson. Mr. Kirts was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was a member of Bellsville Baptist Church, Brown County, and was an electrician, retiring from Hamilton Cosco, Columbus, in 1979. He belonged to the Odd Fellows Lodge, Houston Conservation Club and Salt Creek Township Advisory Board. Born April 28, 1919, at Stone Head in Brown County, he was the son of Lewis Kirts and Lydia Wolfington, both of whom preceded him in death. On May 4, 1940, at Nashville, he married Retha Smallwood, who survives. Other survivors include two sons, Mosier "Bud" (Sharon) Kirts and Robert (Betty) Kirts, both of Houston; four daughters, Doris Day (James Greathouse) and Sharon (Jesse) Lucas, both of Brownstown, Christy (Rondal) Jackson, Medora, and Dinah (Monta) Charles, Seymour; three brothers, Melvin Kirts, Kurtz, Russell Kirts, Columbus, and Henry Kirts, Florida; four sisters, Thelma Thompson, Houston, Grace Taylor, Greensburg, Wilma Jean Harger, Colorado, and Chris Crider, Columbus; 22 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Verl Kirts and Earl Kirts, and a sister, Ruth Lucas, preceded him in death. The Rev. David Ison will conduct services at 11 a.m. Saturday at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Brownstown, with interment in Houston Cemetery, Freetown. Full military graveside services will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47 and Vietnam Veterans 7, all of Seymour. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Riley Hospital for Children, Hospice of Schneck Medical Center or donor's choice.
