Seymour Daily Tribune April 29, 2002 James Louis Laupus James Louis Laupus, 79, Seymour, died today, Monday, April 29, 2002, at his home. Mr. Laupus was an attorney in Seymour and also had served as mayor of Seymour. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and its board of trustees, member of the Riverview Cemetery Board, Republican precinct committeeman, Boy Scout district committeeman (Troop 529) Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks past exalted ruler, member of the American Legion and chairman of the board of Seymour Girls Club, and was an attorney for the United Fund when it was founded and was an original board member. He served in Europe with the U.S. Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart. He had a bachelor of arts degree and juris doctorate award and was a Sagamore of the Wabash. Born Oct. 12, 1922, in Seymour, he was a son of John George Laupus Sr. and Laura Kathryn Hancock Laupus. On June 3, 1951, in Antioch, he married Mary Carolyn Coapstick, who died Nov. 10, 1991. Survivors include two sons, Joseph F. Laupus, Seymour, and Jeffry G. Laupus, New York; three daughters, Jane L. Laupus, Indianapolis, Julia M. Robbins, Louisville, and Jean A. Laupus, New York; eight grandchildren; and a brother, Dr. William E. Laupus, Greenville, N.C. He was preceded in death by a brother, John George Laupus Jr. The Rev. Neal Partain will conduct services at 1 p.m. Thursday at Voss and Sons Funeral Service, Voss Chapel, Seymour. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Seymour. Full military graveside rites will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47 and Vietnam Veterans 7, all of Seymour. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon until time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
