Seymour Daily Tribune November 22, 2006 Gertrude Layton Gertrude "Gertie" Layton, 84, Seymour, died at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006, at The Heritage House, Seymour. Mrs. Layton was a member of West Madison Methodist Church, Madison, and attended First United Methodist Church, Seymour. She worked for American States Insurance Company for 40 years. She was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, Eastern Star and was former woman of the year for the handicap society. She was very active with the American Red Cross as she worked many blood drives. Born March 20, 1922, in Madison, she was a daughter of Royal and Sarah Elizabeth "Bessie" Corbin Rusk, both of whom preceded her in death. On Nov. 25, 1942, she married John K. Layton in Madison. He died Jan. 6, 1994. Survivors include a very special nephew, Mr. and Mrs. John Layton; a step-sister, Martha Goins, Indianapolis; two sister-in-laws, Bea Rusk and Norma Layton; a brother-in-law, Albert and Nadine Layton; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Joe and Arthur Rusk. The Rev. David Leland will conduct funeral services at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at West Methodist Church, Madison. Burial will take place at Springdale Cemetery, Madison. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Voss Chapel, Seymour, and from 1:30 p.m. until time of service Saturday at West Methodist Church, Madison. An Eastern Star will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. today at Voss Chapel. Memorials may be given to the west Methodist Church, Madison.
