Seymour Daily Tribune February 25, 2002 Joe Lewis Joe Lewis, 83, Austin, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at Scott Memorial Hospital, Scottsburg. Mr. Lewis was retired as a forklift operator at Morgan Foods in Austin and also was a retired coal miner. He was a member of New Frankfort Pentecostal Church near Austin and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Born June 25, 1918, near Manchester, Ky., he was a son of Walter L. Lewis and Rose Jarvis. He was married to Mollie E. Lewis, who preceded him in death. Survivors include four sons, Michael Lewis, Lexington, Frankie Lewis, Farmington, Mich., Freddie Joe Lewis, Blocher, and Bobbie Lee Lewis, Austin; six daughters, Diane Schmidt, Ann Thomas and Eva Jean Vires, all of Austin, Kathern Deaton and Bonnie Roll, both of Scottsburg, and Rosetta Helton, Blocher; a brother, Walter L. Lewis, Seymour; a sister, Laverne Hilbert, Hamilton, Ohio; 30 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Crawford. The Rev. Marvin W. McIntosh was to conduct services at 11 a.m. today at New Frankfort Pentecostal Church. Burial was to be in New Providence Cemetery, Austin. Military graveside rites were to be conducted by Crothersville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1083. Collins Funeral Home, Scottsburg, was in charge of arrangements.
