Submitted by: Sharon Virgil Lockhart Leader Jan. 28, 1954 VIRGIL LOCKHART, WWI VET, SUCCUMBS Virgil Lockhart, 58, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, in the U.S. Veterans hospital, Marion, where he had been a patient for the last 15 years. In World War I, he served with the 335th Hq. Co. Indiana Regiment. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Dennis chapel with Rev. H. W. Bentley officiating. The American Legion and VFW posts accorded him full military honors at the graveside in Crown Hill cemetery. Born in Jackson county, Dec. 18, 1896, he was the son of Andrew Jackson and Annabelle Avery Lockhart. He was married to Ines Bryant. Surviving are two sons, Ralph and Donald Ray, Indianapolis and a sister, Nora Rhinehart, Salem.
