Seymour Tribune - June 16, 2007 Joel W. Lucas Dec. 3, 1932 – June 14, 2007 Joel W. Lucas, 74, Brownstown, died at 8:26 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2007, at his residence. Mr. Lucas was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion and a member of Masonic Lodge 174. For several years as a Johnson County resident, he worked in the Indianapolis area as a salesman for AMP Inc., which is headquartered in Harrisburg, Va. He had also worked for Systems Research Labs and ITT, Texas Instruments, while living in Johnson County. After retirement, he had his own antique lumber business in Jackson County. He was a Methodist by faith and he enjoyed gardening, fishing, reading Louis L’Amour Westerns and playing computer games. Born Dec. 3, 1932, in Jackson County, he was a son of Hugh Andrew and Martha Alice Surber Lucas Sr. On Jan. 25, 1953, in Freetown, he married Thelma Noe, who survives. Other survivors include three children, John W. (Brooke) Lucas, Stafford, Va., Gail A. (Steve) Meador, Morgantown, and Jill L. (Craig) King, Leesburg, Va.; three sisters, Charlotte (Russell) Sherrill, Medora, Laberta (Milton) Otte, Seymour, and Virginia (Sam) Krutz, Indianapolis; seven grandchildren, Joshua M. Lucas, Madison H. Lucas, Delaney G. Lucas, April C. (Barry) Mills, Jared M. Paris, Emily G. King and Sherman A. King; and two great-grandchildren, Naomi R. Mills and Rachel L. Mills. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Joel W. Lucas Jr.; a sister, Betty McGlasson; and three brothers, Alva Ernest Lucas, Hugh Lucas Jr. and Bob Lucas. David Ison will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Winklepleck-Weesner Funeral Home, Brownstown. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown, with military rites. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home.
