Manning, 73, of 323 Highlawn Ave., Seymour, died at 5 a.m. today a Jackson County Schneck Memorial Hospital, Seymour, following a lengthy illness. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Manning retired from Cummins Engine Co. in 1979 following 15 years of service. He was a member of Seymour's Veterans of Foreign Wars post. Born on May 23, 1917, in Seymour, he was the son of John H. and Roxie Martin Manning and lived his entire life in Jackson County. He married doris J. Hinton on July 20, 1940, in Louisville. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Gerald E. Manning, Commiskey, and Larry J. Manning, Largo, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs Ernest (Connie Sue) Hoffman, Seymour, three brothers, Raymond Manning and Leo V. Manning, both of Seymour, and Robert Manning, North Vernon; three sisters, Mrs. Deryl (Alice) Eddy, Deltona, Fla.; Mrs. Lawrence (Edith) Traughber, Greenwood; and Mrs. Edward (Carolyn) Bennett, Columbus; and five grandchildren. He was preceeded in jdeath by a brother and sister. Services will be conducted at 10 A.M. Saturday at Voss Chapel, Seymour. The Rev. Edward Bennett will officiate. Military graveside services will be conducted by Seymour's VFW and American Legion posts at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Voss Chapel and from 8:30 a.m. until time of service Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice.
