Seymour Daily Tribune James Irvin Maples Dec. 15, 1930 – June 2, 2006 James Irvin Maples, 75, of Medora and formerly of Whiteland, died at 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2006, at Hoosier Christian Village, Brownstown. Mr. Maples was a member of Whiteland Jubilee Lodge 602, Greenwood American Legion Post 252, charter member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6978 of Whiteland, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, volunteer firefighter in New Whiteland, deputy marshal of New Whiteland and a member of Medora Senior Citizens. He retired from Allison Gas Turbine in Indianapolis after 35 years and lived in Whiteland for 30 years. Born Dec. 15, 1930, in Jackson County, he was a son of James Maples and Clearize Shields Maples, both of whom preceded him in death. On Sept. 6, 1951, in Medora, he married Ruth Watts Maples, who survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Patsy (Gerry) Dilley, Whiteland, and Rita (David) Miller, Shelbyville; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant sister. The Rev. Larry Mallett will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hague Funeral Home, Medora. Burial will take place at Proctor Cemetery in Lawrence County. Military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 6978, Whiteland. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. until time of service Sunday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
