The Tribune Seymour, Indiana January 16, 2017 George R. Martin George R. Martin, 89, of Freetown passed away at 9:45 p.m. Friday, January 13, 2017, at Hoosier Christian Village in Brownstown. Born February 12, 1927, in Freetown, he was the son of James C. and Letha Fern Brock Martin, both of whom preceded him in death. On August 20, 1950, he married Elsie Morgan. She preceded him in death on February 8, 2009. Mr. Martin was a U.S. veteran and served as a minister at various churches in Indiana and Kentucky. The churches he served are Slate Valley Christian Church, White Oak Christian Church, Houston Christian Church, Fairview Christian Church, Antioch Christian Church, Freetown Church of Christ, Gum Lick Christian Church and Baileys Chapel Christian Church. He also had been camp manager for Camp Calvary in Mackville, Kentucky, for more than 20 years. He enjoyed University of Kentucky basketball, the Detroit Tigers and the Cincinnati Reds. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include his children, Sharon (Dennis) Taylor, James (Debra) Martin and Kevin (Tina) Martin and eight grandchildren, Amanda Taylor, Leigh Ann Taylor, Tori Anderson, Hunter Martin, Caitlin Martin, Caleb Martin, Rachel Gernert and Andrew Gernert. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Martin and a sister, Ruth Pfeiffer. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Freetown Church of Christ with Barry Dewitt officiating. Burial will be in Lucas Cemetery at Freetown with graveside military rites. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Freetown Church of Christ. Memorials may be made to Freetown Church of Christ or Hoosier Christian Village auxiliary or Camp Calvary.
