Seymour Daily Tribune January 26, 2007 Bernice Leila McKay Sept. 16, 1915 - Jan. 28, 2007 Bernice Leila McKay, 91, died at 7:05 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, at Lutheran Community Home, Seymour. After Mrs. McKay graduated from high school in Clark, S.D., in 1933, she was employed as a telephone operator. She was a devoted wife and homemaker. She enjoyed playing golf, bridge and reading, especially historical and biographical novels. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church and its Altar Guild, and a member of Seymour All Thumbs Garden Club for several years. She was also the owner/manager at Jacques Renee Cosmetic Boutique in Columbus for many years. She had been a resident of Lutheran Community Home since April 1996. Born Sept. 16, 1915, in Sisseton, S.D., she was a daughter of Frank and Hazel Gorman Sankey, both of whom preceded her in death. On July 14, 1940, in Watertown, S.D., she married Francis S. "Mac" McKay, and moved to Seymour in 1960. Mr. McKay died in 1999. Survivors include a daughter, Judi Gauch, North Mankato, Minn.; a grandson, Matt Gauch, Louisville, Colo.; a granddaughter, Cathy Gauch, Boulder, Colo.; a great-grandson, Forrest Gauch, Louisville, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers and their wives, Lloyd and Helene Sankey and Gordon and Ruth Sankey; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Edward and Maxine Schmit and Bob and Sheila McKay; and two sons-in-law, Donald E. Gauch and Jon W. Heine. A memorial service and burial will take place in the Gauch family plot in Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center, Iowa, at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be given to Seymour Library, Seymour Meals on Wheels, Schneck Medical Center Hospice or the donor's choice.
