Seymour Daily Tribune Joseph Paul McLean November 7, 2006 Nov. 8, 1914 - Nov. 6, 2006 Joseph Paul McLean, 91, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2006, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Mr. McLean served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. He attended White Creek United Methodist Church. He retired from Cummins Manufacturing in 1976, where he was a machinist for 26 years. He was a member of the Diesel Workers Union and he loved to garden and read. Born Nov. 8, 1914, in Marion County, he was a son of John N. and Maude M. Soots McLean, both of whom preceded him in death. On Feb. 8, 1936, he married Mary Louise Birnell, who died Jan. 19, 1998. Survivors include a son, Kenneth A. (Donna) McLean, and a daughter, Marilyn L. Robbins, both of Columbus; grandchildren, Randy (Kathy) Durham, Columbus, Matthew (Karen) McLean, Seymour, James McLean, United States Navy, Norfolk, Va., Timothy (Elizabeth) McLean, Indianapolis, and Debbie (Steve) Peters, Columbus; a brother, Phillip McLean, Martinsville; great-grandchildren, Danielle and Brittany Durham, Columbus, Jessica and Clayton McLean, Seymour, Andrew and Zachary McLean, Indianapolis, and Alayna Peters, Columbus; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Michael, Blake and Patrick Larson, Kenosha, Wis., and Taylor Rose Bragg, Columbus. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles P. McLean, on Nov. 9, 2004; two grandchildren, Cheryl Durham and Steven Durham; four brothers, Glenn, Robert, James and David McLean; and six sisters, Opal Settles, Esther Davis, Ruth Vernon, Mary Spaulding, Elizabeth Smith and June Myers. The Rev. Roger Walby will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Thursday at Burkholder Funeral Chapel, Seymour. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour. Visitation will be from noon until time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the White Creek United Methodist Church Building Fund or the donor's choice.
