Seymour Daily Tribune May 6, 2002 Harlan G. Mellencamp Harlan G. “Boon” Mellencamp, 78, Seymour, died at 5 a.m. Sunday, May 5, 2002, at his residence. Mr. Mellencamp was a farmer of his own farm, retiring in 1986. He continued working in farming for Marvin White and Jerry Roberts. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church of Christ, the Hamilton Township Conservation Club and the Jackson County Conservation Council. He was a lifetime member of the American Eagles 655 and American Legion Post 89 of Seymour. Born Sept. 24, 1923, in Jackson County, he was a son of Grover G. Mellencamp and Mary White Mellencamp. On April 18, 1952, at Central Christian Church in Seymour, he married Elizabeth Ann “Libby” Hitch and she survives in Seymour. He also is survived by a daughter, Sherry L. (Eddie) Stumler, Seymour; three sons, Jerry R. (Myra) Mellencamp, Tony L. Mellencamp and Allan L. (Arlene) Lange, all of Seymour; a brother, Armin Mellencamp, Columbus; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded by two sisters, infant Dorothy Mellencamp and Lorene Anderson. The Rev. Dave Moss will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Myers Funeral Service, Burkholder Chapel, Seymour. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Hamilton Township Conservation Club, the Jackson county Conservation Council or St. Paul’s United Church of Christ.
