Seymour Daily Tribune - 5/3/2006 Thelma Lee Mengel Aug. 29, 1925 – May 1, 2006 Thelma Lee Mengel, 80, a resident of Seymour since 1996, died Monday, May 1, 2006, at her residence. Ms. Mengel was a retired insurance broker and was a member of Central Christian Church and active as an Angel Volunteer. She loved gardening, quilting, reading and organized Bible studies. Born Aug. 29, 1925, in Hammond, she was a daughter of Otto Lee and Hanna Katherine Henry Miller, both of whom preceded her in death. Survivors include five sons, Dr. David (Sue) Mengel, Randolph, Kan., Jeffery (Ruthanne) Mengel, DeMotte, Jim (Becky) Mengel, Barberton, Ohio, John (Sindy) Mengel, Seymour, and Robert Lambka, Crown Point; two sisters, Joyce Ballard and Jan (Dr. George) Compton, both of Munster; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The Rev. John Starr will conduct services at 10 a.m. Saturday at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, Schererville. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Voss Chapel, Seymour, and from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will take place Saturday at Chapel Lawn, Schererville. Memorials may be given to Central Christian Church or donor’s choice.
