Seymour Daily Tribune February 21, 2002 Billy C. Mitchell Billy C. Mitchell, 59, Norman, died at 5:36 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis. Mr. Mitchell was a member of Houston Christian Church, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was discharged from the U.S. Air Force in 1964. He enjoyed gardening, horseback riding and farming. He had retired from Cummins Engine Co. in 1995 after 30 years. Born Nov. 7, 1942, in Jackson County, he was a son of Clayton and Bertha Snow Mitchell. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Hersh (Cindy) Hackney and Mrs. George (Kerri) Champion II, both of Norman; two sons, C.R. Mitchell and Matthew Mitchell, both of Norman; five grandchildren, Tiffany Hackney, Chelsey Hackney, Gary Hackney, George Champion III and Billy Champion; two sisters, Velma Jean Stockover, Columbus, and Betty Robertson, Nashville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Mitchell, and a sister, Laverne Mitchell. David Fisher and James Watkins will conduct services at 10 a.m. Saturday at Houston Christian Church. Burial will be in Houston Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Winklepleck-Weesner Funeral Home, Brownstown. Memorials may be given to Houston Christian Church.
