Seymour Tribune - October 27, 2009 Howard F. Montgomery 1924 - 2009 Howard F. Montgomery, 85, Columbus, died at 5:45 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at his home. Mr. Montgomery retired from Cummins Engine Co., where he had served for 40 years. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving with the 460th Bomb Group. He was a member of Ogilville Church of Christ, serving in many church offices, including being an elder for 50 years. He was a member of the CREAK Club and American Legion and was a former member of the Exchange Club. He was a 1942 graduate of Seymour High School and was the first to graduate from the Purdue Extension in 1952. He enjoyed spending time with his family. Howard was born in Seymour on Sept. 22, 1924, the son of Maurice M. and Elnora A. Alwes Montgomery. He married Ruthanna A. Uffman on April 6, 1944. Survivors include his wife; children, Judy (Dale) Wichman, Seymour, Robert Montgomery, Columbus, and Lynn (Janice) Montgomery, Columbus; brother, William Montgomery, Seymour; grandchildren, Brian (Cathy) Wichman, Columbus, Brent (Natasha) Wichman, Seymour, Amy (Jared) Cobb, Georgia, and Rebecca (Greg) Wilson, Mississippi; and great-grandchildren, BT, Christian, Noah and Jonah Wichman, Emma and Claire Wichman, Montgomery, Izabela, Trevor and Zach Wilson and Tess, Hudson and Davis Cobb. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street in Columbus, with the Revs. Marty Wright, Richard Yeaton and Harold Barnett officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Baptist Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard. Calling will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to time of service Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Ogilville Church of Christ, Hospice of South Central Indiana or Indiana Blazer Baseball.
