Brownstown Banner - April 6, 1899 William Morgan Was born near Tampico, Jackson County, Ind., in September, 1828 con- sequently would have been 71 his next birthday. His father died when he was a mere boy and he was left to support his mother and sister. He was the last one of the family to die. When about 14, he moved to Missouri and lived there for some four or five years, then returned to their old home here. Later he begun blacksmithing om a country shop. Several years later he and W. McConnell formed a partnership and ran a shep at this place; and the ring of his hammer was familiar to all of our people. The last work he done in the shop was Friday evening before his death. He was twice married, first wife was Miss Ascenia Rogers. To this union one daughter was born, who still survives him. His second wife was Miss Sarah Richey. To them were born eight children, four of whom with their mother survive him. When young he was very fond of hunting and has killed many deer and wild hogs, being the best marksman in the country. While in his teens he joined the Baptist church at Mt. Pleasant. He Joined the I. O. O. F. in '77 or '78 and was a devoted member. When the war of the rebellionbroke out he entered Co. G 25th Ind. in '64 and served till the close of the war. He was laid to rest in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Monday. Submitted by Laurie Carpenter
