Seymour Daily Tribune November 21, 2006 Hazel P. Butcher Murphy Nov. 9, 1909 - Nov. 20, 2006 Hazel P. Butcher Murphy, 97, Seymour, died at 1:45 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, 2006, at Covered Bridge Health Campus, Seymour. Mrs. Butcher Murphy was a homemaker and a member of Rockford United Methodist Church. She had worked at the Seymour Woolen Mill for 20 years and also the Shoe Factory. She enjoyed gardening, fishing and mowing her yard up into her 91st year. She also enjoyed her family, neighbors and church family, who were blessed not only by her friendship, but also by her wonderful fruit pies. Born Nov. 9, 1909, in Jennings County, she was the oldest daughter of Frank Louis and Ruth Carr Nichter, both of whom preceded her in death. On June 1, 1952, at First United Methodist Church, Seymour, she married James A. Butcher, who died Nov. 13, 1974. On Jan. 16, 2003, she married Granville Murphy, who died May 22, 2004. Survivors include four sisters, Gladys Weasner, Ruby Toborg and Muriel Carr, all of Seymour, and Esther Wilkes, Tennessee, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard Nichter and Charles Nichter; a half brother, Lawrence Nichter; and a sister, Hulda Faye Butcher. The Rev. Rosa E. Harris and the Rev. Tom Rascoe will conduct funeral services at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Voss Chapel, Seymour. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10:30 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Jennings County or Rockford United Methodist Church.
