Seymour Daily Tribune Arvile Alva Nolan August 23, 2006 Arvile Alva Nolan, 79, Seymour, died at 3:05 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, at Columbus Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Nolan was drafted into the service on Jan. 24, 1945, and served as a sergeant in the United States Army in World War II with the 11th Field Artillery Battalion Battery C as chief of section 24th Division. He received the following decorations and citations: Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Army of Occupation Medal, Japan Good Conduct Medal and Service Bars. He was also a member of N.R.A. Station in the PTO World War II. He was honorably discharged Nov. 18, 1946. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Seymour. He retired from Lear Siegler in January 1989. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925 in Seymour, post commander in 2005-2006 and was also VFW district chaplain. He was a member of the Lutheran Laymen League. He lived most of his life in Washington and Jackson Counties. Born Aug. 24, 1926, in Marydell, Ky., he was a son of Tony and Thena Longsworth Nolan, both of whom preceded him in death. On Jan. 1, 1954, at Trinity Lutheran Church, he married Joy Delight Boling, who survives. Other survivors include three children, Peggy Ann (Bill) Drees, Medora, Diane Motamedi, Florida, and Roger (Elaine) Nolan, Seymour; two brothers, the Rev. William F. Nolan, Clarksville, and Tony Wyatt Nolan; a sister, Dollie Mae Edwards; five grandchildren, Jean Ann Drees, William Drees, Kirsten (Matt) Huff, Yuri (Amanda) Motamedi and Seama Motamedi and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Everett Nolan; and a sister, Ruby Faye Wheeler. The Rev. Andrew Currao will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home, Vallonia. Burial will take place at Vallonia Cemetery with full military graveside service conducted by VFW Post 1925. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 until time of service Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Redeemer Lutheran Church or donors choice.
