Edith Lavern (Smith) Parker (1929 - 2014) Obituary Edith Lavern Smith Parker, 84, a resident of Hoosier Christian Village in Brownstown, formerly of Tampico, passed away at 12:59 p.m. Saturday, August 30, 2014. Born September 20, 1929, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of Leroy Holton Smith and Ova Emms Johnson Smith, both of whom preceded her in death. On August 8, 1951, at her home in Jackson County, she married Frederick Norman Parker, who preceded her in death March 29, 2010. Edith was a 1947 graduate of Tampico High School. She was a lifelong member of Tampico Baptist Church, a past member of Order of Eastern Star and the church's women's missionary society. She enjoyed cro-hooking, knitting, cooking, baking, gardening and working with flowers. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to her and she loved them dearly. Survivors include a son, Shell L. (Kelly) Parker of Seymour; a daughter, Joan E. (Jim) Bode of Brownstown; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Voss of Brownstown, and Dana J. Freese of Seymour; eight great-grandchildren, Paul J. Cross, Logan H. Smith, Ethan J. Schultz and Hayden M. Voss, all of Brownstown, and Devin M. Freese, Daelyn Rose Freese, Gunner Neal and Lariah Neal, all of Seymour; four great-great-grandchildren, Brent Smith, Isabella Hanner, Raven Cross and Ember Cross, all of Brownstown; and a sister, Evelyn Lorraine McKain of Tampico. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward Smith, John Smith and Earl Smith; and a sister, Alice Rueter. Pastor Paul Huddleston will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Adams Funeral Home & Crematory in Crothersville, with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Brownstown. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. Family requests memorial donations be made to Hoosier Christian Village Auxiliary in lieu of flowers in care of Adams Funeral Home, 110 E. Howard St., Crothersville, IN 47229.
