Frederick Norman Parker (1925 - 2010) Frederick Norman Parker, 84, Tampico, passed away at 2:30 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2010, at Hoosier Christian Village. Mr. Parker lived most of his childhood and young adulthood in Ohio and then entered the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in May 1947, then moved to Jackson County. He served mostly in the European Theatre. During his enlistment, he served in the Big Red One and fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was honored with a Bronze Star for his service along with many other medals and honors. Mr. Parker retired from the former American Can, Austin. He was a very active member of Tampico Baptist Church, serving as the treasurer for several years. He taught the teenage Sunday school class and had served as a lay minister since April 1997. He was a member of the York Masonic Lodge in Little York, NRA member, served as a court appointed child advocate for several years for CASA and enjoyed woodworking and leather working, gardening and tending to his roses. Born June 17, 1925, in Indianapolis, he was the son of Shell Amos and Lydia Day Parker Clark, both of whom preceded him in death. On Aug. 8, 1951, he married Edith Lavern Smith Parker, who survives at Hoosier Christian Village in Brownstown. Other survivors include two children, a son, Shell L. (Kelly) Parker, Seymour; a daughter, Joan E. (Jim) Bode, Brownstown; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Voss, Brownstown, and Dana J. Freese, Seymour; five great-grandchildren, Paul J. Cross, Brownstown, Logan H. Cross, Brownstown, Devin M. Freese, Seymour, Ethan J. Schultz, Brownstown, and Hayden M. Voss, Brownstown; one sister, Verna Derbyshire, Southport; and two brothers, John W. (Carol) Parker, Seymour, and Donald (Judy) Clark, West Milton, Ohio. Pastor Harold Morrow will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday at Tampico Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown, with a military graveside service. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Adams Funeral Home, Crothersville, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Thursday, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Friday at church.
