Seymour Daily Tribune Ethel Marie Hall Patrick September 30, 2006 Ethel Marie Hall Patrick, died Feb. 17, 2006, at her home in Tampa, Florida. She and her family moved to Tampa from Seymour in 1950. Some years later, while she and her husband established a wholesale auto parts business, she continued her employment as a supervisor with the clerk of the circuit court, distinguishing herself as the first woman computer programmer in the area. Following her retirement in 1978, she and her husband traveled extensively, visiting 49 states and many European and Caribbean locales. For more than 40 years, she was an important genealogist in the Hall and Patrick family lines, and she was a pioneer in the earliest days of family research on the Internet. She spent many years with her computer and her microfilms, generously compiling historical data for the use of other researchers. In recent years, she was active in volunteer work and made hundreds of caps for survivors of cancer treatment, having courageously fought her own long battle against ovarian cancer. Her altruism and her gentle and positive attitude toward life have been among her greatest gifts to all of those in her family. She had formerly been a member of First Methodist Church in Seymour. Born Aug. 8, 1914, in Columbus, she was a daughter of Stephen R. and Alva Hendricks Hall. Survivors include one son, James W. Patrick and his life partner, Mark T. Groutage; son-in-law, Dennis Neff; grandchildren Anthony Neff and Michelle Allen; and her great-grandson, Luke Allen. She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Patrick, and daughter, Barbara J. Neff. A graveside memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour.
