Seymour Daily Tribune February 13, 2007 Verna Shoupe Philpot Feb. 19, 1928 - Feb. 12, 2007 Verna Shoupe Philpot, 78, Brownstown, died at 10:10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at her residence. Mrs. Philpot was a homemaker and retired from Medora Plastic in 1988. She had been a resident of Jackson County since 1961. Her favorite pastime was going to auctions with her friend Cindy Rollins and she greatly enjoyed visits from her family and friends and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Born Feb. 19, 1928, in Hyma, Ky., she was a daughter of Sherman Shoupe and Myrtle Downey Shoupe, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Pharis Philpot Sr., who died in 1992. Survivors include four sons, Mitchell (Deanna) Philpot, Manchester, Ky., Calvin (Kay) Philpot, Reddington, Jerry (Evelyn) Philpot, Naples, Fla., and Pharis (Connie) Philpot Jr., Brownstown; a daughter, Lois (Mike) Copple, Seymour; five brothers, Sherman D. Shoupe Jr., Los Angeles, and John Shoupe, Richard Shoupe, Eddie Smith and Daniel Shoupe, all of Manchester, Ky.; two sisters, Layuna Chastain, Tampa, Fla., and Norma Rios, Manchester, Ky.; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Terry Wayne Philpot; a grandson, Brian Philpot; and a sister, Judy Faye Simmons. Jack Belk, pastor, will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Thursday at Zabel Funeral Home, Brownstown. Burial will take place at Hensley and Philpot Cemetery, Manchester, Ky. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 11 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hensley Philpot Cemetery, Manchester, Ky. Memorials may be given to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Camp Lakeview or Schneck Medical Center Hospice Foundation. Arrangements are being handled by Zabel Funeral Home, Brownstown.
