Seymour Daily Tribune Orval R. Platter October 23, 2006 Orval R. "Bus" Platter, 84, Louisville, Ky., formerly of North Vernon, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2006, at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville. Mr. Platter was a World War II Army veteran. He owned and operated Platter's Furniture and Floor Covering in North Vernon for many years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and a former member of the Seymour Elks Club. Born April 17, 1922, he was a son of Orval Ray and Mabel Ann Grinstead Platter, both of whom preceded him in death. On Feb. 14, 1980, he married Mary Ann Thornbury, who survives. Other survivors include one son, John Platter, Seymour. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Sam and Phillip Platter; three sisters, Lucille Matthews, Frances Davis and Virginia Sparks. The Rev. Stephen Donahue will conduct funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial and military graveside rites will be conducted at the Vernon Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Vance-Fisher-Sawyer Funeral Home. A prayer service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
