Seymour Daily Tribune Marie Polley Dec. 31, 1908 – June 13, 2006 Marie Polley, 97, Columbus, died at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at Silver Oaks Health Campus. Mrs. Polley lived her early life in Monroe County, but lived most of her life in Bartholomew County. She was employed by Bartholomew County School Corp. at the Parkside School Cafeteria and as manager of the Jefferson School Cafeteria. She retired in 1973. She was a member of the Nazarene Quilting Circle, making quilts for missionaries. She was also a member of First Church of the Nazarene for more than 70 years. She helped make dinners and meals at the church for various occasions. She also was a member of Missions Book Society. She enjoyed cooking, canning and quilting. Born Dec. 31, 1908, at Bloomington, she was a daughter of Frank E. Duncan and Carolyn Flynn, both of whom preceded her in death. On June 20, 1933, she married Russell Polley, who died Feb. 9, 1989. Survivors include three sons, Richard M. (Judy) Polley, Columbus, Phillip A. (Janet) Polley, Elizabethtown, and Ron D. Polley, Columbus; a daughter, Janet S. (Robert) Hill, Columbus; two sisters, Dorothy Merritt, West Palm Beach, Fla., and Phyllis Johnson, Bloomington; eight grandchildren, Deborah Ann Hill Hammel, Gregory Wayne Hill, Cynthia Sue Hill Meredith, Mark Robert Hill, Michelle Ann Polley Pruitt, Melinda Gayle Polley Webb, Kara Marie Polley Fields and Darrell Phillip Polley; 16 great-grandchildren, Devin Pruitt, Olivia Webb, Paige Webb, Tyler Fields, Julia Fields, Adriane Polley, Evan Polley, Nathaniel Polley, Nicole Ann Hammel, Jenna Hill Epkey, Brooke Lynn Hill, Stephanie Leigh Hill, Joshua Steven Meredith, Jared Douglas Meredith, Zachary Robert Meredith and Danton Bradley Harris; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren, Jeremy Philip Hammel and Colin Robert Hill; four sisters, Tinza Duncan Turner Lanz, Christina Duncan Thomas, Nancy Florence Duncan Bales and Ersa Duncan Sciscoe; and five brothers, Gilbert Oscar Duncan, Paul Roger Duncan, Orville Edward Duncan, Frank Elmer “Junior” Duncan and Russell “Bud” Duncan. The Rev. Robert Muncie and the Rev. Bryan Soloman will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Saturday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, Columbus. Burial will take place at Garland Brook Cemetery, Columbus. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from noon until time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Hospice of South Central Indiana, Gideons International or the donor’s choice of charities.
