Seymour Daily Tribune March 19, 2002 Ervin A. Pottschmidt Ervin A. Pottschmidt, 73, Seymour, died at 11:35 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2002, at Silver Oak Health Campus, Columbus. Mr. Pottschmidt was a charter member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He was in the church choir for more than 50 years and was a Sunday school teacher. He graduated from Immanuel Lutheran School in 1942, Seymour High School in 1946 and I.C.S. in construction engineering in 1970. He served in the U.S. Army with the 98th Army Band, playing tuba, and was stationed at Trieste, Italy. He had a great love of music. He also was a member of the American Legion. He owned and operated E. & G. Construction Co., retiring in 1994. He was a humorist and was author of “The Kankee Girls.” Born Nov. 29, 1928, in Brownstown, he was a son of Lawrence Pottschmidt and Carrie Otte Pottschmidt. On Nov. 12, 1950, in St. John Lutheran Church, Sauers, he married Shirley A. Schepman, who survives in Seymour. Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. David (Cynthia J.) Powell, Bryant, and Mrs. Wynn (Denise E.) Wright, Seymour; seven grandchildren, Andrew D. Powell, Indianapolis, Darren N. Powell, West Lafayette, Rachel E. Powell and Amy L. Powell, both of Bryant, and Duwayne A. Wright, Kara E. Wright and Gregory M. Wright, all of Seymour; and a brother, Gerald J. Pottschmidt, Seymour. He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry L. Pottschmidt. The Rev. Paul Schlueter will conduct services at 10 a.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Seymour. Full military graveside rites will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47 and Vietnam Veterans 7, all of Seymour. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Voss and Sons Funeral Service, Voss Chapel, Seymour, and from 9 a.m. until time of service Friday at the church. Memorials may be given to Bartholomew County Hospice, Alzheimer’s Association or Redeemer Lutheran Church Organ Fund.
