Seymour Daily Tribune Maxine B. Ray October 31, 2006 June 26, 1926 - Oct. 30, 2006 Maxine B. Ray, 80, North Vernon, died at 2:14 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2006, at Jennings Health Center. Mrs. Ray lived most of her life in Jennings County and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ at Easyville and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Throughout her lifetime she was employed at the Glove Factory, Straughn McKain Poultry, National Veneer Lumber Co., Cummins Engine Co., Seymour Electronics, Heritage House and Jay's Market. Born June 26, 1926, in Straughn, she was a daughter of James Milton and Bernice Marie Ferguson Durham, both of whom preceded her in death. On Sept. 13, 1944, in Seymour, she married Charles B. Ray, who preceded her in death. Survivors include four daughters, Sharon Sue Strong, North Vernon, Candice Ann Sowder, Seymour, Rhonda Kay Wingler, South Carolina, and Jonetta Engleking, Brownstown; three sons, Charles Gene Ray, Scipio, Milton Eugene Ray, Seymour, and Jon. S. Ray, Thorntown; two sisters, Carolyn Young, Reddington, and Janet Annest, Indianapolis; a brother, Bob Durham, Hayden; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Virginia Burnell, Catherine Bottorff, Phyllis Doty (Tea) and Tiny Robinson; six brothers, Mert, Milton, John, Bill, Ray and Jackie Dale Durham; and a grandson. The Rev. Jean Pogue will conduct a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Voss Chapel, Seymour. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon until time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, Alzheimer's Foundation or Hospice of Jennings County.
