submitted by: Orville Paller Seymour Daily Tribune July 14, 2006 Don J. Robertson Don J. Robertson, 88, Liberty, S.C., died in March, at the Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home, in Anderson, S.C. Mr. Robertson graduated from Wabash College with a bachelor of arts in economics and served aboard destroyer escorts in the Pacific and Atlantic during World War II as a Navy Lieutenant. Following WWII Mr. Robertson worked in sales for International Harvester before settling in Plainfield, N.J. He worked in New York City in magazine advertising sales, first for “Rough Notes”, an insurance trade publication and later he was vice president of North East Sales for Commerce Publishing Company where he was responsible for advertising sales in “The American Broker,” “Club Management,” and “Décor” magazines. Mr. Robertson was active at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Plainfield as well as in little league baseball, Boy Scout Troop 14, the Wabash College Alumni Association, and charity fund raising including Red Feather and United Way. He spent vacations at his home on Culver Lake, Branchville, N.J., where he enjoyed fishing and was active in the Culver Lake Men’s Club and served on the board of directors of the Culver Lake Normanoch Association. In 1982, he retired to Liberty, S.C., where he enjoyed gardening and raising fish and exotic birds. Born in Seymour, he was a son of Lynn and Mae Robertson, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Barbara Jean Voss Robertson, who also preceded him in death. Then he married Ferne Meeks Robertson, who survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Molly Robertson, Easley, S.C.; a son, Jim (Jane Schroyer) Robertson, Newton, N.J.; three step children, Deborah (Joe) Dandeo, Lebanon, N.J., Lois (Tommy) Cain, Pikens, S.C., and Judy (Barry) Bailey, DeFidder, La.; five grandchildren, and a great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert; two sisters, Virginia Kelley and Helen Robertson, who preceded her in death in June. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Seymour. Burial of ashes will take place at the Catholic cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Mich. Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, Ill. 60601-7633. Arrangements are being handled by Voss Funeral Home, Seymour.
