Seymour Daily Tribune April 24, 2002 Horst Schindel Horst Schindel, 63, North Vernon, died suddenly Monday, April 22, 2002, at Dearborn County Hospital, Lawrenceburg. Mr. Schindel was a factory worker for Cummins Engine Co., retiring in 1999 after 40 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, North Vernon. He had resided in North Vernon for 37 years. Born Oct. 14, 1938, in Czaplinek, Poland, he was a son of Otto Schindel and Olga Eichorst, who both preceded him in death. On May 2, 1964, at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, Elkhart, he married Joan Schneider and she survives in North Vernon. He also is survived by three daughters, Carlene Schindel, Nashville, Tenn., and Mary Driver and Paula Ertel, both of North Vernon; a son, Mark Schindel, Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Edith Nott, Madison; a brother, Erwin Schindel, Columbus; and four grandchildren, Emily Ertel, Adam Driver, Luke Ertel and Rebecca Driver, all of North Vernon. The Rev. Herman Lutz will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, North Vernon. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Vance-Fisher-Sawyer Funeral Chapel, North Vernon. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, also at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s School Endowment or the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
