Seymour Daily Tribune February 21, 2007 William Frederick Schleter Nov. 14, 1919 - Feb. 20, 2007 William Frederick Schleter, 87, Brownstown, died at 8:06 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007, at Covered Bridge Health Campus, Seymour. Mr. Schleter was a member of Brownstown United Methodist Church. He was a director of member services for 39 years with the Jackson County REMC before retiring in December 1984. He was the official timer for Brownstown High School basketball for 42 years, a member of the Brownstown Lions Club, Seymour Elks Club and Seymour Bowling Association, and was secretary of the Seymour Bowling Association for 34 years. He was inducted into the Seymour Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1985. He had been a member of the State Bowling Board since 1975, serving as state president in 1984, and was inducted into the State Bowling Hall of Fame in 1986. He was chairman of White River and Hoosier State Games for several years, bowled in numerous state and national tournaments, won the State Senior Tournament and won numerous local bowling tournaments. Born Nov. 14, 1919, in Jackson County, he was a son of William and Mabel Hamilton Schleter, both of whom preceded him in death. On Sept. 3, 1944, in Brownstown, he married Margaret Perry, who died Jan. 10, 2005. Survivors include four daughters, Nancy (Kenneth) Stuckwish, Vallonia, Barbara (Leslie) Schroer, Brownstown, and Susan (Robert) Bowman and Karen Burrell, both of Seymour; a brother, Joseph R. Schleter, Veedersburg; eight grandchildren, Melissa Bane, Julie Wischmeier, Brian Schroer, Robert Bowman Jr., Andrew Bowman, Joseph Burrell, Bethany Burrell and Hannah Burrell; and eight great-grandchildren, Taylor Wischmeier, Amanda Wischmeier, Erin Bane, Leah Bane, Ashley Schroer, Aidan Schroer, Abrianna Schroer and Madalyn Bowman. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Schleter, and an infant sister, Dorothea Schleter. The Rev. Jack Shake will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday at Brownstown United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Brownstown, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Friday at the church. Memorials may be given to Brownstown United Methodist Church, American Cancer Society, Don and Dana Myers Cancer Center or donor's choice.
