Seymour Daily Tribune February 2, 2002 Rosa Nelle Beldon Scott Rosa Nelle Beldon Scott, 80, Columbus, died at 5:38 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at the Alterra Sterling House of Columbus after a long illness. Mrs. Scott taught in the public schools of Indiana for 42 years, including high school physical education in South Bend and Crothersville. From 1961 until 1986, she taught English language arts at Clifford School and then Hauser High School. She was a 1939 graduate of Crothersville High School and a 1943 graduate of Hanover College, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and was designated Best All-Around Senior Woman. In 1967 she earned her master’s degree in education from Indiana University. Following her retirement in 1986, she devoted herself to volunteerism and served as the campaign chairwoman for the Bartholomew County Chapter of the American Heart Association. She also was an officer in a local chapter of the Indiana State Retired Teachers Association and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church of Columbus, where she was a former Sunday school teacher and superintendent, newsletter editor, director of Bible school and publicity chairwoman. Born Nov. 22, 1921, in Bloomington, she was a daughter of Roy H. and Hattie Rucker Beldon. On Aug. 20, 1945, in Crothersville, she married John Lloyd Scott, who died May 13, 1995. Survivors include a daughter, Janet Kaye Scott, Columbus; two sons, John Beldon Scott, Iowa City, Iowa, and Mark S. Scott, Columbus; a granddaughter, Allison Scott, Columbus; two grandsons, Matthew and Jordan Scott, both of Columbus; and a sister, Marietta B. Seitz, Solomons, Md. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Sean Scott, and two sisters, Audra Zink and Genevieve Paciorek. The Rev. Brian Teater will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Memorial Baptist Church, 2320 Seventh St., Columbus. Entombment will be in Garland Brook Mausoleum, Columbus. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Myers Funeral Service, Reed and Jewell Chapel, 3729 25th St., Columbus, and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Monday at the church. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the American Heart Association or Memorial Baptist Church.
