Seymour Daily Tribune February 9, 2007 Oren F. "Bud" Shade Oren F. "Bud" Shade, 82, Seymour, died at 3:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at Lutheran Community Home, Seymour. Mr. Shade was employed as service manager at Brown Chevrolet, Seymour. He later worked at Don Morris Chevrolet, Jack Dunfee Chevrolet and retired from Bob Poynter Chevrolet after 45 years in the business. Mr. Shade was a life member of the VFW where he served as post commander from 1986 to 1989. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and ended his military service as a master sergeant. He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic/Pacific Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars, a Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star, a World War II Medal, a Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. Bud met Betty Grable during one of her tours. He had the honor of lowering the Japanese flag and raising the American flag in Okinawa, Japan. He was also a life member of American Legion Post 89, the K of C, and the Eagles. He was a 1942 graduate of Shields High School, Seymour. Born March 5, 1924, in Seymour, he was a son of Walter N. and Carrie (Scheurich) Shade, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Marie C. Richart on May 29, 1943, in Seymour, she preceded him in death in February 1984. He married Shirley Sullivan Compton on May 8, 1985, in Brownstown, and she survives in Seymour. Other survivors one daughter, Sheila (Wayne) Zumhingst, Seymour; four sons, Michael Shade, Kokomo, Patrick (Sue) Shade, Arkansas, Phillip (Janet) Shade, Nineveh, and Rex Allen Shade, Brownstown; one daughter-in-law, Diana Shade; one step son, Douglas (Theresa) Compton, Texas; 14 grandchildren, Anna McFarland, Elizabeth Bright, Tom Shade, Brian Shade, Steven Shade, Mark Shade, Courtney Brunker, David Zumhingst, Emma Zumhingst, Aaron Zumhingst, Jared Shade, Kyle Shade, Lauren Marie Shade, and Chad Shade; two step-grandchildren, Alisa Ann Bennett, and Ray D. Compton; 10 great grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Josephine Sexton, and Mary Margaret Shade; one brother, Glen Shade; and two sons, Timothy Shade and Daniel Shade. Father Todd M. Goodson and Father Joseph Sheets will conduct a funeral mass at 10 a.m., Tuesday, at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church, Seymour. Burial will take place at St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery, Seymour. A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., Monday at Voss Chapel, Seymour. Full military graveside rites will be conducted Tuesday by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47 and Korean Veterans, all of Seymour. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Voss Funeral Service, Seymour, and from 9 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be given to, Parkinson research, St. Ambrose Catholic Church Mass, Lutheran Community Home, Schneck Medical Center Hospice, Central Christian Church, or donor's choice.
