Seymour Tribune - August 15, 1956 Caddie Holmes Shepard Hip Injury Fatal To Miss Shepard Miss Caddie Holmes Shepard, 86, of Brownstown, died at 12:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the Roselawn Nursing Home at Seymour. She had been in poor health for the past year and failed rapidly after fracturing her hip 10 days ago. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 o'clock Friday afternoon from the Winklepleck Funeral Home in Brownstown, with the Rev. C. W. Taylor, Methodist minister from Indianapolis, and formerly minister of the Brownstown Methodist Church, in charge. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown. Friends may call at any time at the Winklepleck Funeral Home. Miss Shepard was born November 26, 1869, the daughter of the late Allen A. and Fannie E. Holmes Shepard, at Emporia, Kansas, moving to Jackson County in 1887 where she resided for the rest of her life. With her brother, Elmer Shepard, Brownstown, she operated the Hamer Variety Store, for 35 years. When was extremely active in the work of the Brownstown Methodist Church where she was honored at a special dinner for 50 years' membership. Miss Shepard was a leading force in the Women's Christian Society of the Methodist Church, and, in the words of her neighbors, was "a fine and gracious lady." Her sister, Mrs. Cora Brodhecker, now deceased, was the wife of the former editor of the Brownstown banner. She is survived by one brother, Elmer Shepard, Brownstown; four nephews, Rolland and Lou Allen Brodhecker, of the Brownstown Banner; Claude Brodhecker, New York City, and Raymond Shepard, Bedford; and one niece, Mrs. Richard Robertson, Brownstown.
