Seymour Daily Tribune February 25, 2002 Aliene Shipley Aliene Shipley, 87, of Franklin and formerly of Wilkinson, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Franklin. Mrs. Shipley was a graduate of Charlottesville High School and Central Normal College in Danville. She taught at Eden and Charlottesville schools and also worked at Shipley Insurance Agency. She enjoyed playing the piano and was an avid fisherman. She placed second in the nation in amateur typing at the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair. She was a member of Shirley-Wilkinson Community United Methodist Church in Shirley, the Shirley Chapter of Easter Star 492, Lilac Literary Club in Wilkinson, Nameless Creek Literary Club in Greenfield, Toastmistress Club in Greenfield and Tri Capa in Greenfield. Born Feb. 15, 1915, in Maxwell, she was a daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Emma Murnan Weber. She married David Shipley, who survives in Franklin. Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Connie) Butler, Columbus, and Ann Wilcoxon, Wilkinson; six granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Hugh and Wallace Weber. The Rev. Kurt Stone will conduct services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Condo & Son Funeral Home, Wilkinson. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Greenfield. Eastern Star services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Shirley-Wilkinson Community United Methodist Church.
