Seymour Daily Tribune May 6, 2002 Donald Allen Short Sr. Donald Allen “Sonny” Short Sr., 70, North Vernon, died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at his home. Mr. Short was a 1950 graduate of Vernon High School, Vernon. He was a former butcher and owned and operated his own moving business in Oxnard, Calif., for 10 years before moving back to North Vernon. He and his wife owned and operated Lurton’s Store in Commiskey for the last 10 years. He was a gold card member of the Grand Victoria Casino and Resort in Rising Sun and was member of the Indiana Farm Bureau. He enjoyed playing cards, car rides, fishing and yard work, and collected Norman Rockwell paintings. Born Feb. 4, 1932, in Jennings County, he was a son of Hubert and Ruth Frazier Short and they preceded him in death. On Oct. 10, 1980, in Los Angeles, he married Eva Gladys Lumos Short and she survives. He also is survived by two sons, William Short, Richmond, Ky., and Donald Allen Short Jr., Santa Maria, Calif.; two daughters, Connie Short and Wanda Harrison, both of South Carolina; two stepsons, Dax Rosales, Fort Drum, New York, and Max Rosales, North Vernon; two stepdaughters, Nancy Rosales, North Vernon, and Jenny Rosales, Los Angeles; two brothers, Larry Short and Danny Short, both of Paris Crossing; four sisters, Thelma Hughes, Faye King, Donna Goldschmidt and Roberta Pettigrew, all of North Vernon; two granddaughters, Gabriella Rosales, North Vernon, and Sheila Short, Texas; six grandsons, Donald Allen Short III, North Vernon, William David Short, Bryan Short and Curtis Short, all of Richmond, Ky., and Brad Short and Wayne short, both of South Carolina; 12 great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Daryl Short. He also was preceded by a brother, William Short; and a sister, Shirley Elaine Short. The Rev. Walter Miracle will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Dove-Sharp and Rudicel Funeral Home, North Vernon. Burial will be at Tea Creek Cemetery, Lovett. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Kidney Association or the American Heart Association, through the funeral home
